Cable Company cut through
Oak Tree roots

Q: We came home today to find that the cable company sawed through the huge roots at the base of a large oak tree and dug them up leaving only exposed sawed-off ends - about 3 feet from trunk.

I'm so upset and am afraid the tree will die. Can you offer any advice?

The tree overhangs our home and deck and there was no need to lay the cable there when they had 8 acres to go around.

Monique

A: It is possible the tree may die as a result, or may even fall over as a result. It definitely sounds like you will need the expert help and advice from a Consulting Arborist.

To get help, go to the website of the American Society of Consulting Arborists (ASCA). There you will find a Referral Directory on the left-hand side. Click on it, then enter your zip code and a search radius to find ASCA members near you.

Call and explain your situation. Expect to be charged for service, but it will be well worth it.
