Huntington Cleveland Harborfest

Tall Ships Return to Cleveland July 12-16

On July 12, a dozen majestic tall ships will arrive at full sail at Cleveland's North Coast Harbor. This breathtaking Parade of Sail will kick off the third Huntington Cleveland Harborfest, a five day, region-wide maritime festival expected to draw more than 150,000 visitors to downtown Cleveland.

Produced for the first time by the Great Lakes Science Center and the Steamship William G. Mather Museum, this spectacular summer event offers visitors the unique opportunity to step back into maritime history.

Cleveland will be serving as the official host for the first stop of the American Sail Training Association's Tall Ships Challenge® Race Series on the Great Lakes for the first time since 2003. Beginning July 13 and continuing through July 16, Harborfest visitors will have the opportunity to board vessels to learn about these beautiful ships and life at sea from experienced crew members who will act as tour guides.

For a real taste of sailing life, the Windy II - a 148 foot topsail schooner - will take passengers out into Lake Erie for one and a half hour sails daily. The festival will offer live music and performances, a wide variety of food and beverages to sample and a maritime marketplace for picking up a souvenir of this fantastic family event.

Some highlights of Harborfest:
  • A Kids Village, Discovery Cove, filled with educational and fun activities will allow children to learn about ship technology and life on board. Children will enjoy learning how to tie a knot, predict the weather, raise the sails on a ship, and much more - all in an interactive environment designed especially for them.
  • Tall Ship Providence, one of the twelve ships visiting Cleveland this year, is featured in Disney's much anticipated "Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest". The captain and crew sailed her to St. Vincent and the Grenadines for filming of the movie, which will be released July 7.
  • Want to Party Like A Pirate? You will get the chance on Saturday July, 15 from 8:000 - 11:00pm. This outdoor party will include live music, entertainers, food, drinks, and barrels of fun!
