Targeting Cellulite

Q. Do you know of any exercises that target cellulite? Especially in the upper thigh/buttocks area.

A. Michael O'Shea addressed this very question recently in his weekly column in Parade Magazine. He pointed out that cellulite is just "ordinary fat that is stored close to the skin's surface and is more visible in some women than in others."

The bad news is that 80% of all women have cellulite - it is nature's way of getting us through pregnancy and lactation - gee, thanks.

He goes on to say that exercise will improve the dimpled appearance of cellulite, but even the thinnest of women will always have some.

Contrary to popular belief, we cannot spot reduce by targeting one part of our body. But the good news is that we can lower our overall body fat (including cellulite) through exercise and proper nutrition.

As always, check with your own healthcare professional before undertaking any diet or exercise program.
