Balance Therapy

Q. Can you tell me something about Balance Therapy? Thanks

A. Balance therapy (under the realm of physical therapy) works to train (or re-train) the core of stability so that a patient can reduce their risk of falling.

Sometimes, after an accident, a patient may lose their sense of proprioception (the ability for the body to know where it is in space) and that is a skill that can be re-trained.

Balance loss can also be due to vestibular disturbance (located inside of the ear) and a PT that is trained in balance disorders can evaluate and help assist the patient to a full recovery via a series of home program and clinic exercises.
