Effect of Percocet

Q. After minor surgery I was given generic Percocet for pain. I was given all the warnings about drowsiness and operating machinery since it is a narcotic. However, in my case it acted like a caffeine pill. I couldn't sleep, I was really keyed up - I felt like I was on a really fast treadmill. Was I given the wrong pill or could a narcotic have the complete opposite effect on a person?

A.Narcotic pain medication may cause euphoria - a feeling of extreme well being - in some people. This may be what happened.

If the medication also relieved your pain it was most likely correct, but if you have a question about the accuracy of your prescription - please call your pharmacist and ask.

The Poison Control Center at 216-231-4455 can also identify medication if your pharmacy is closed and you must know immediately.
