Q)I see so many ads for prescription drugs over the Internet. Is it really safe? How do I know if I'm getting what I asked or? They seem so much cheaper, but I just don't know if I should try them.
A.The first thing you should always consider is your own instinct and common sense. If an Internet ad seems "shady" or offers you drugs "just like the ones your Doctor prescribed" - STAY AWAY!
That being said, any company that sells prescription drugs must follow the same FDA regulations whether they are selling them on the Internet or in a store. There are many reputable Internet drug companies that will, in fact, save you money.
Remember, the FDA is a United States government agency and therefore if you choose to buy medicine from places such as South America or Mexico, they are not governed by our FDA and therefore your purchase becomes risky. In addition to American, Canadian and British companies are generally reliable.
Once your prescription is delivered to you check and be sure all of the markings, including the color and imprinted numbers and letters match the ones you have received in the past.
If you have never taken that particular prescription medication in the past you can go to the manufacturers website to see what the pill should look like. If not, contact a local pharmacist and ask him or her to describe the medication. IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT - DO NOT TAKE THE MEDICATION.
You should actually be taking this step whenever you receive prescription medicine, even if you go to the local pharmacist. Human error is always a factor. Be sure the pill looks the same as it has before, or, if new, check to see what it should look like and what markings should be on it.
If you are sensible and take some obvious precautions, prescription drugs through the Internet should not cause a problem.
