Q.My husband goes to more than one pharmacy - he checks the prices and gets his medication at the cheapest one. I say this is dangerous, because the pharmacy keeps track of the other pills you are taking. He says that's the Doctors job and if the Doctor prescribes it, he should take it. Is he right?

A.He is not completely correct. While your doctor prescribes the current medication, the doctor may not be aware of what other doctors have prescribed or what other medication you may be taking. And your doctor cannot be in charge of every aspect of your health.

This is why your pharmacist checks your current medication against past medication for interactions. This cannot be done if your prescriptions are spread out at 2, 3, or 4 different pharmacies.

You are purchasing not only a drug product but also a level of service, care, and convenience when you pay for a prescription. Therefore you should find a pharmacy that offers you the level of service, care, and convenience that you want at a fair price.

As he has found, no one store can offer the lowest price on everything, and other needs may suffer for the lowest price.
