Psychics and "too much" religion Answered by Kenneth G. Alexander
Q.My very intelligent, college graduate daughter is seeing a psychic on a regular basis. Can you believe it? I can't. Please tell me what to say to her to make her grow up and stop wasting her money. Thanks
A. Unfortunately, there is little you can say that will "make" your adult daughter change. Although you find it frustrating, your daughter does have the right to her own belief system. It appears she is getting some positive reinforcement from this experience. All you can do at this point is to share your objections/concerns with your daughter, and hope she makes the right decisions for herself on this issue.
Q. In the last few months my wife and her sister have become very religious - I mean very, very religious. They got to Church 3-4 times a day, there's a statue everywhere, they read the Bible together either at our house or her sisters. I often can't have a conversation because she's busy praying or going off to pray. They are both in their late 70's and in good health. We never really practiced any religion at all before this, although we led a good life. Help?!?!?!
A. The first thing you might consider is asking your wife about her recent "conversion" into her faith. Many times as adult's age, they develop a greater sense of their own mortality. This can result in a closer examination (and pursuit of) the "afterlife". Another option in this matter is to share your concerns with your wife's pastor/priest. Many times, individuals "spiritual advisor" can help put your wife's beliefs in proper perspective.
