Husband is a Hypochondriac
Advice from Kenneth G. Alexander

Q. I think my husband is a hypochondriac - if he hears symptoms - he gets them. He never used to be this way. Any suggestions?

A. As we age, long-time friends in our age group get sick. Some die. For many of us, this magnifies the reality of death.

This reality often brings a "heightened" awareness and sensitivity to our bodily functions, which (if perceived as abnormal) can cause fear.

I would encourage you to not "feed in" to your husband's health concerns. It will only exacerbate his anxiety.

It might be helpful for him to schedule a full physical examination, and present a list of his concerns to his physician.

Upon the conclusion of the exam, if this "concern' persists, you can now say, "remember what the doctor told you'.
