Lifelong Fear of Water
Advice from Kenneth G. Alexander

Q. I've always been afraid of water and now I'd like to learn to swim for the exercise value for my arthritis. Any advice for overcoming this life long fear?

A. Hydrophobia (fear of water) is very treatable condition.

It is important however, to realize that it requires the help of a qualified mental health professional.

I recommend you call your primary care physician and see if there is someone they would recommend. If not, a local hospital or mental health agency can offer help.
