Help with Sleep
Advice from Kenneth G. Alexander

Q. Do you know any methods to help me sleep at night?

I fall asleep immediately, then wake up after about an hour and can't get back to sleep at all.

A.There are several ways that you may find helpful. One is progressive muscle relaxation, which involves listening to a cassette tape that instructs the individual on focusing and relaxing their entire body in gradual steps.

Another technique is guided imagery, which also involves listening to a tape. This method instructs the individual in creating a "peaceful, relaxing image" in one's mind to reduce stress and tension.

The other areas that you might consider are diet (reduce caffeine, sugars/3 balanced meals a day/no large meals just before bed), regular exercise (walking/swimming/aerobics) or medication (always discuss this with your physician first).
