David S. Bardenstein, MD
David S. Bardenstein, MD

Dr. David S. Bardenstein is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and directs the Ocular Oncology and Orbital Disease Service and the Ocular Pathology Service at University Hospitals of Cleveland.

He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan and his residency training in ophthalmology from Sinai Hospital of Detroit, Detroit Michigan. He has completed fellowship training in Ocular Oncology and Orbital Disease with Devron Char at the University of California, San Francisco and in Ophthalmic Pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Bardenstein is board certified as a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has held leadership positions in the American Academy of Ophthalmology as a council delegate for the American Association of Ophthalmic Pathologists and participates actively in multiple ophthalmic pathology societies. He has served as a program committee chair for ARVO.

He has an active laboratory research program with support from the National Eye Institute and Research to Prevent Blindness as well as commercial granting sources.

Current areas of activity include: complement regulation on the ocular surface, ocular inflammatory disease, genetic control of ocular development and ocular tumor immunopathology.



Julie Belkin, MD
Julie Belkin, MD

Dr. Belkin, a native Clevelander, graduated from Northwestern University in 1985 with an undergraduate degree in psychology. She then moved east to Toledo to attend the Medical College of Ohio. After graduation, she returned to Cleveland for residency training at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center. In 1994 she began practice in comprehensive ophthalmology with University Ophthalmologists, Inc.

She is currently an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology.

As a full-time faculty member in the Department of Ophthalmology at CWRU, Dr. Belkin conducts medical student seminars and teaches "The Eye Exam" during the second-year Physical Diagnosis course in the medical school.

Dr. Belkin is the director of Ophthalmology Grand Rounds at CWRU, a weekly lecture series.



Edward N. Burney, MD
Edward N. Burney, MD

Edward N. Burney, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University Medical School and Director of Ophthalmology at the Stokes Veterans Administration Medical Center in Cleveland.

He completed his residency with the CWRU Affiliated Hospitals Ophthalmology Residency program in 1984 and a glaucoma fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute from 1985-86.

His special interests are Medical and Surgical Management of Glaucoma and Cataracts in Glaucoma patients.



Joseph M. Thomas, MD
Joseph M. Thomas, MD

Dr. Joseph Thomas, M.D. is the Director of the Refractive Surgery Services at University Hospitals of Cleveland and Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University.

He is a board certified ophthalmologist with extensive training and expertise in managing refractive errors of the eye. He is one of a handful of ophthalmologists nationwide to have completed a yearlong fellowship in laser refractive surgery techniques.

His subspecialty in ophthalmology is the surgical and non-surgical correction of all types of blurred vision due to refractive error. He has been a co-investigator in clinical trials for laser vision correction of high degrees of nearsightedness.

He has extensive academic and clinical experience with these procedures, as he was the sole refractive surgeon for a group practice prior to joining the faculty at University Hospitals of Cleveland. In addition, he has personally undergone the LASIK procedure to correct his refractive error.

Dr. Thomas earned his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University and completed his Ophthalmology training in the CWRU Affiliated Hospitals Ophthalmology Residency Program. He received fellowship training in cornea and anterior segment surgery, external ocular disease and refractive surgery at University Hospitals of Cleveland.



Michael S. Lee, M.D.
Michael S. Lee, M.D.

Dr. Lee earned his M.D. at Yale University School of Medicine in 1993. In addition to being part of University Ophthalmologists he is an assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University.

He is also an assistant ophthalmologist at MetroHealth Center and on the consulting staff of Akron General Health Center. He received fellowship training in vitoretinal disease and surgery at Kresge Institute in Detroit Michigan.

In addition to making presentations and guest lecturing, his briefs, manuscripts and books have been published.



Suber S. Huang, M.D.
Suber S. Huang, M.D.

Dr. Huang received an M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York in 1985. Since then, Dr. Huang has continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins University and Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Huang is the Residency Program Director at CWRU and an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at CWRU as well as Director of Vitoretinal Diseases and Surgery at University Hospital.

Dr. Huang is the recipient of numerous awards including The American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievements Award in 2002 and was included in a list of Best Doctors in America: Midwest Region in 1995.



Thomas J. Joly M.D., Ph.D.
Thomas J. Joly M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Joly is an assistant professor at CWRU and Director of the Division of Ophthalmology at St. Vincent Charity Hospital.

He received his PhD from State University of New York at Buffalo in 1995 and his MD in 1997.

He is the recipient of numerous awards and academic honors.



Jonathan H. Lass M.D.
Jonathan H. Lass M.D.

Dr. Lass is an active staff member at Akron General Hospital, St. Vincent Charity Hospital and UHHS Richmond Heights Hospital.

He is Director of Visual Sciences Research Center at CWRU and Director of Ophthalmology at University Hospitals. In addition, he is the Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University.

In 2001, Northern Ohio Live Magazine named him the top ophthalmologists as a result of a survey of other professionals. Cleveland Magazine bestowed a similar honor on him in both 1998 and 2002.

Dr. Lass received his M.D. from Boston University in 1973 and has since continued his education and research in various academic and medical facilities throughout the country.



William J. Reinhart, M.D.
William J. Reinhart, M.D.

Dr. Reinhart is the Medical Director of the Cleveland Eye Bank. He is also an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at CWRU School of Medicine and has full staff privileges at Wright Surgery Center, University Suburban Health Center.

An ex-Marine, Dr. Reinhart was awarded inclusion in Best Doctors in America: Midwest Region in 1996 and Top Doctors: Cleveland Magazine in 1996 and again in 2002.

He received his B.A. in Physics from Thiel College in 1961. and his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 1968.



Thomas J.S. Stokkermans
Thomas J.S. Stokkermans

He is a member of the Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and is part of the associate staff at University Hospital. He has a M.S. degree in Biochemistry a B.S. in Biology and a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology.

He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at CWRU. He is a published author and speaker.



Loretta B. Szczotka O.D., M.S., F.A.A.O
Loretta B. Szczotka O.D., M.S., F.A.A.O

She is the Director of Contact Lens Service at University Ophthalmologists, She holds a MS in Physiological Optics from Ohio State University and a Doctor of Optometry Degree from OSU as well.

She is a published author and frequent lecturer. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and a Diplomate in Cornea & Contact Lens Section of the American Academy of Optometry.
