Bottom of the Foot

Q. The soles on bottom of my feet are very dry! Also I get little "blisters" with a clear fluid in the "blisters".

The soles of my feet itch very much with this condition. What do I need to do to alleviate this problem? Thanks for Your Time.

A. Itching and blistering of the bottom of the feet is often caused by a fungal infection of the skin.

A diagnosis must first be established to determine the cause of the problem. This is done by visiting a podiatrist.

Assuming that the condition is a fungal infection the treatment generally speaking would involve washing the feet daily, drying them well after bathing, using an over the counter athletes foot product (cream or powder) for a period of time described on the package insert (generally for a period of 4 to 6 weeks for over the counter products) and changing shoes and socks twice daily.

If this has not helped the condition or if the condition is reoccurring it is bees to see a podiatrist.

Q. The bottoms of my feet feel like powder puffs. What causes this and what can I do to correct this?

A. The description that has been provided is very vague. Altered sensations of the feet are not generally common. Feet that do not feel "normal or comfortable" should be evaluated by a podiatrist.

The feeling that has been described can be caused by a variety of medical problems that could range from "neuropathy" commonly but not exclusively found in diabetic patients to patients who have compression of the nerves in the back. It can also be a symptom associated with a number of medical conditions.
