Eye & Foot Exams
& Glucophage Itch

Answered by Tamara Kurtis Randall, MS, RD, LD

Q. I have Type II Diabetes. How often should I have an eye exam? What about feet?

A. Everyone with type 2 diabetes should see an ophthalmologist for a dilated eye exam yearly.

In addition, you should be checking your feet for redness, sores, blisters, cuts or scrapes every day at home.

A visit to a podiatrist is also recommended once a year.

Q. I take a combination of Glucotral XL, Glucophage and Avandia. Could any (or all) of these be making me itch? Thank you.

A. If your blood glucose has been high, it is common to have dry skin that might itch.
