Ask the Dermatologist
Steven J. Taub, M.D.

Q. I am loosing a lot of hair - all of them are small. None of them are the normal ones that are already grown. Plus I am forming a lot of flakes. Can you please help me? I am loosing a lot of hair per day. Maybe 250 or more per day.

Answer: I would suggest that the rate that you are losing hair, you should see your primary doctor or your dermatologist since losing 250 hairs a day is more abnormal.

Q. I have a big problem with shampoo/conditioner causing acne along my hairline. What are the ingredients I should avoid?

Answer: I am not aware of any specific ingredient that causes acne along hairlines, however if you find shampoos that are bothersome, you may have to try other shampoos and by process of elimination use ones that do not give you a problem.

There are no medically indicated shampoos or conditioners that would keep someone from specifically breaking out with acne. Try other brands and see which one works for you.
