Anonymous asks:
My dentist is suggesting I get implants instead of a dental plate. Is this a wise move? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
A. Implants can be a good option for patients who have specific needs. If you are a candidate for this procedure, it can help make the ultimate restoration of your mouth and functioning much better.
Disadvantages include the length of time from start until you receive the final restoration, and it is a more expensive option. Depending on the type of implant, some actually promote the growth of bone, which is an advantage. I recommend you investigate thoroughly with your dentist.
Anonymous from Hudson asks:
I am 63. I have always needed braces but the time was never right. Have I waited too long or does it still make sense?
A.The usefulness of considering braces is not necessarily a function of chronologic age. Your dentist would need to evaluate how healthy your teeth, bone, and gums are prior to a decision to consider braces. Also the severity of the problem that you would want fixed may play a part in a decision such as this.
Teeth, bone, and gums should all be healthy before considering braces. I would recommend that you talk to your general dentist about this question first and if appropriate, he/she can recommend a specialist in this area to evaluate you further.
Anonymous from Cleveland asks:
My granddaughter often opens bottles with her teeth. That scares me to death. Even though her teeth are young and strong isn't this dangerous?
A.I would not recommend opening bottles with your teeth. There would be a risk of fracturing off pieces of the tooth, which could be painful and time-consuming to fix. Best to stick to food!
