Q. I have a mouthful of silver from many years of dental work. Are there new metals or materials that can be used instead of the unsightly (and costly) silver? If so, does it make sense to have the silver fillings replaced?
A. There are other filling materials available including tooth colored fillings. Most of them are as costly or more so than silver. If your silver fillings are in good repair, there is no reason to change them unless you really don't like the way they look.
Q. Is it absolutely necessary to get ones teeth cleaned every 6 months, if there are no "special " problems? Thank you. J, H.
A. It depends on your situation. If you have no signs of gum disease and are able to keep your mouth free of plaque and tartar, and do not have many cavities, it might be OK to wait longer, such as once per year. Ask your dentist what is in your best interest.
Q. If I have 2 implants replacing my front teeth, could I still be a good candidate for braces? Thank you.
A. Depending on the nature of your problem, braces may work for you. The implants are not moved with braces, but may be used as anchors if other teeth need to move. A complete examination and evaluation by your dentist and an orthodontist could assess your individual situation.
