Keyboard Shortcuts

Sometimes it is quicker and easier to use the keyboard instead of a mouse.

Here are some keyboard shortcuts that you can use while running Internet Explorer (the browser that most people use to view web pages)

None of these can harm your computer so experiment with them and see which shortcuts make your browsing more enjoyable.

  • To make the page full-screen, or revert back to the former size, press the F11 key
  • To show (or hide) the Search window press the F3 key
  • To refresh the current web page press the F5 key
  • To refresh the current web page and force it to get new items from the Internet server (as opposed to what may be cached on your PC) hold down the Control (CTRL) key and press the F5 key
  • To open the Find dialog box hold down the Control (CTRL) key and press the F key
  • To show (or hide) the History bar hold down the Control (CTRL) key and press the H key
  • To show (or hide) the Favorites bar hold down the Control (CTRL) key and press the I key
  • To open a new browser window hold down the Control (CTRL) key and press the N key
  • To go to your Home page hold down the Alt key and press the Home key
  • To open a dialog box where you can type in the address of another web site hold down the Control (CTRL) key and press the O key
  • To stop downloading a webpage press the Escape (ESC) key
  • To go to the Address bar hold down the Alt key and press the D key
  • To add www before a name and .com after it (a great timesave!) hold down the Control (CTRL) key and press the Enter key
