Shore Cultural Center
If you're looking for a wide assortment of things to do or classes to take, Shore Cultural Center is a great place to start.
Included in the permanent tenants of the building are The Euclid Teacher's Association, American Red Cross, Women & Children In Crisis Center, The Adoption Center, The Polka Hall of Fame and the Euclid Hunger Center.
There are classes offered in many areas including piano lessons, dance, pottery and aerobics. You will find the Euclid Art Center and the Garden Club all at this same location. In fact, you'll even find the Euclid City Orchestra! Sundays bring a number of small Church groups to the Center to have their services.
An important coming attraction is the addition of the Euclid Public Schools Alumni Museum, expected to be complete by summer of this year. The Museum will include a remarkable time line of memorabilia from the days when Euclid had a two-room schoolhouse on North Street to today. A major proponent of the Alumni Museum, Councilman Pat Delaney was excited with the many things they found behind the old lockers they pulled out of the old school building.
"I guess people throughout the years have been pretty much the same. We found coins from the twenties, thirties, and forties, all the way through the eighties. We also found love notes, homework, photos and of course, there were candy wrappers"
A beautiful old building with a lot of opportunities for seniors, Shore Cultural enter still stands today because it is the "will of the people". Just a few years ago there was talk of tearing down the Center and maybe putting in a grocery store. The uproar was heard for miles around and the Center still stands tall and proud.
This year's classes include: Creative Writing, Calligraphy, Classic Drawing, Open Pottery Studios, Scrapbooking and Designing a Gift Album. There are also adult classes in CPR, Line Dancing and Yoga and Jazzercise.
The Center is located at 291 East 222nd Street. A quarterly flier lists upcoming classes, senior programs and events. The flier can be picked up at the Center, at City Hall and other locations throughout the city. For more information call 216- 289-8578.
